Caldini Sandro

Sandro Caldini, studied oboe with F. de Sanctis and M. Bruno at the Conservatory of Music in Florence and graduated in 1983. Then he studied chamber music with John Blakely and english horn with Geoffrey Browne; in 1985, as english horn player, he won the 1st prize in chamber music at the International Music Competition in Stresa. From 1982 to 1984 he has been playing as solo oboe of the Chamber Orchestra of Florence and in 1989, he taught at the Federal University in Rio de Janeiro. He collaborated with Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Corale Coradini, GAMS Ensemble, Ensemble Art et Jeunesse, Contempoartensemble, Minimal Ensemble and Esprit du bois; he was solo oboe in the Cantica Nova Orchestra of Siena and Guido Monaco Orchestra in Arezzo; he is solo oboe in the Accademia Secolo XXI Orchestra in Legnago since 2005. He has been playing in Italy, Germany, UK, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, Brazil and USA In 1992 he qualified as oboe teacher in the Music Academy and taught at the Conservatory of Music in Milan and Cagliari ; in 1997 he was appointed oboe professor at the Conservatory of Music in Udine. He is a member of IDRS and BDRS and collaborated with some magazines such as Toscana oggi, Setticlavio, I Fiati, La gazzetta della musica, Double reed news, The journal of IDRS and The Double reed. Additionally he is an active editor of oboe works for Musica Rara, Doblinger, Breitkopf & Härtel and Phylloscopus editions (works of Pasculli, Triebert, Parma, Albinoni, Haendel, Ponchielli and Vivaldi). He recorded CDs for Rivo Alto, CRDM and Ariston labels. He served as 2nd Vice-president of the IDRS for the biennal period 2006-2007 and was in the jury at the Barbirolli International Oboe Competition in 2005 and in 2009, in the Fox-Gillet Competition 2007 and 2011, in the Young Artist oboe Competition 2008 giving masterclasses in Italy, Germany, Norway, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Commonwealth, Brazil and USA. He plays Lorée instruments.
